At Eastern, classroom learning is critical to exploring the theory behind a given discipline, while having the opportunity to test your own ideas in class discussions. We also know there is nothing like practical experience to teach you real-life applications of the knowledge gained in class. That’s why hundreds of Eastern students take internships each year.

Institute for Sustainable Energy

The award-winning Institute for Sustainable Energy (ISE) offers on-campus internships to students in Environmental Earth Sciences and other majors. The ISE conducts energy audits and coordinates programs with state agencies, municipalities, nonprofits and other groups.

Cigna

The international healthcare company offers a paid internship program on Eastern’s campus that has seen most students hired full time by Cigna after graduation. The program started in 2011 and upwards of 100 students have passed through it since then.

ESPN

More than 40 Eastern graduates work at the sports entertainment giant in Bristol, CT, with many of them starting off as interns. Video production, editing and other skills are acquired during hands-on experiences.

Theaters

Eastern Theatre majors, as well as students in other majors, take advantage of performance spaces throughout New England to hone their on-stage and behind-the-scenes talents. Locations include the Goodspeed Opera House, TheatreWorks, the Connecticut Repertory Theatre, and the Hartford Stage.

State Capitol

Political Science majors, as well as students from other majors, intern with state senators, representatives, legislative committees, and other organizations associated with the work of the Connecticut General Assembly. Many have gone onto careers in government.

Jackson Labs

The internationally acclaimed Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine develops new medical treatments associated with genetically based diseases and disorders. Biology and Bioinformatics students are routinely invited to spend their summers as research assistants and interns.

Elizabeth DelBuono ’17

Biology graduate Elizabeth DelBuono ’17 is pursuing a master’s degree in genetic counseling at Sarah Lawrence College. Her internship as an Eastern student at the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine — where she conducted breast cancer research — solidified her career aspirations. “I was surrounded by some of the most brilliant individuals in the world, and was immersed in the race to find an answer, a gene, a treatment, a cure.”

Eastern’s Work Hub

Brittany Noonan ’18

Business Information Systems major Brittany Noonan ’18 interned on campus in Eastern’s Work Hub as part of Cigna’s Technology Early Career Development Program. “The internship opened so many doors for my career,” said Noonan, who now works for the company as a business analyst. “I am excited for what Cigna has to offer in the next chapter of my life.”

PricewaterhouseCoopers

Kendrick Constant ’18

Finance major Kendrick Constant ’18 interned with PricewaterhouseCoopers. “Working with the Campus Recruiting Team helped me realize what PricewaterhouseCoopers looks for in an employee, and now I see that they look for ‘the best of the best.’ As a student, it’s rewarding to know that your hard work is not in vain.”
