Why is this Information Required

Connecticut state law requires that, as a condition of enrollment in any higher education institution in Connecticut, ALL STUDENTS born after December 31, 1956 must submit proof that they have been adequately immunized against Measles (Rubeola), Mumps and German Measles (Rubella). Also, as of fall 2010, Connecticut state law requires that all students born after January 1, 1980 must provide proof that either they have had chickenpox disease or have been adequately immunized for chickenpox.

Connecticut State Law also requires that all students who live in on-campus housing be immunized against meningitis.

The only exemptions to these requirements which can be considered are:

  1. Documentation by a licensed health care provider advising for medical reasons, against immunization either permanently or temporarily
  2. Religious objections accompanied by a written statement to this effect
  3. A blood test for antibodies to any or all of measles, mumps, German measles and chickenpox showing that you are immune to these diseases. (You must provide a copy of the actual laboratory test results)

If you fail to comply with these laws, you will not be allowed to register for courses or, in the case of the meningitis vaccine, enter campus housing until proof of immunization is forwarded to the University Student Health Service. You may even be dismissed from school and/or campus housing if not in compliance with this law.
