Walter Diaz, vice president of student affairs at Eastern Connecticut State University, has been awarded the Education Leadership Award by the Prospanica Connecticut Chapter Board of Directors. Diaz will be recognized at the virtual annual Destino Award Gala on Dec. 9.
The Education Leadership Award is given to those who work in the higher education community and advocate for diverse communities and students. These individuals must also follow the mission and projects of Prospanica within their Hispanic communities. Diaz has worked in the education system since 1987 and has been a part of the Eastern community since 1999.
The Prospanica Connecticut Chapter is the state chapter of the Hispanic-based organization formally known as Prospanica: The Association of Hispanic MBAs & Business Professionals. As stated in the organization’s mission statement, “We empower and enable Hispanic professionals to achieve their full educational, economic and social potential.”
The organization has spent the past 30 years advocating for Hispanic business professionals, has provided more than $8 million in scholarships to graduate students, has helped Hispanic professionals connect with each other and more. There are currently more than 175 chapters scattered throughout 47 states.
