Sustainable CT, a program run by the Institute for Sustainable Energy (ISE) at Eastern Connecticut State University, was recently awarded the CT Green Building Council's Trailblazer Award. The award recognizes Sustainable CT's efforts to transform and promote strategies that encourage intelligent stewardship of Connecticut's resources as embodied in the ethos of the award: "The seeds for sustainability sown today will feed the livability of generations tomorrow."
The CT Green Building Council's (CTGBC) annual Green Building Awards Ceremony was held last month at Common Ground High School in New Haven. Each year, CTGBC recognizes notable achievements by individuals and organizations. The new Trailblazer Award was introduced in 2019 in recognition of the work or contributions that have a unique and lasting impact on the welfare of the public and the environment.
"We are thrilled to be honored with the first Trailblazer award," said Lynn Stoddard, executive director of the ISE and director of Sustainable CT. "With over half of our state's towns and cities participating in this two-year old program, Sustainable CT communities are indeed blazing new trails to a more healthy, thriving, efficient and resilient Connecticut."
Sustainable CT provides a roadmap of sustainability best practices for towns, technical assistance, funding and recognition through certification. Forty-seven towns and cities across Connecticut have earned the prestigious Sustainable CT certification, demonstrating accomplishments in nine impact categories including inclusive and equitable communities, cleaner transportation, vibrant arts and culture, natural resource stewardship and affordable housing.
