Connecticut state law requires ALL students born after December 31, 1956 to provide evidence of:
Immunity against measles, German measles (rubella), and mumps.
Students must show proof of having received:
Two doses of measles, mumps and rubella vaccine.
ALL students born after January 1, 1980 must provide evidence of:
Immunity against chickenpox (varicella) either by showing proof of two doses of the varicella vaccine or documentation from your health care provider stating that you had chickenpox disease.
If you are unable to prove that you have had chickenpox or locate any of your immunization records, you can get a blood test to determine if you are immune to any or all of these diseases.
If there is a medical reason why you cannot receive any of the above vaccines, an explanatory note from a qualified health care provider must be attached to the health examination form.
For students living in on-campus housing: Connecticut State Law (Public Act No. 01-93) now requires vaccination against meningitis (Types A,C,X,W-135) for all students residing in on-campus housing. Important: State law now requires that students get a second meningitis shot if they received their previous meningitis vaccine(s) more than five years from the date they first start college.
(Please note: A new meningitis vaccine is now available for Neisseria meningitis type B. This type B vaccine is not required by the state or the University at this time but we recommend you speak with your primary care provider about receiving this vaccine.)
If there is a medical reason why you cannot receive the meningitis vaccination, an explanatory note from a qualified health care provider must be attached to the health examination form.
It is recommended that students receive an adult tetanus booster every 10 years.
It is recommended that all entering students have received a full complement of polio immunizations before 18 years of age, as recommended by their own health care providers, state health departments, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the ACIP, and the CDC. Routine immunization of those 18 years of age or over in the United States is not recommended.
Completion of the three-shot series of Hepatitis B vaccine is highly recommended, but it is not required.
Vaccinations - Please make sure you have ALL your required vaccines prior to starting at Eastern Connecticut State University. Your Health Care Provider will have a record of all your vaccines.
