Music Performance Concentration

Students in the performance concentration pursue advanced studies on a primary instrument/voice of their choosing in preparation for a Senior Recital. Students supplement private lesson studies with a variety of ensembles and electives to be chosen in consultation with their advisor. While all students identify a primary area of study, secondary instrument/voice studies are possible based on individual goals and interests!

In addition to the 34 credits in the Music Core Curriculum (See Music Major Degree Requirements), students with a concentration in performance complete an additional 12 credits as outlined below:

Concentration Requirements 

Total credits: 12; Only grades of 'C' of better will count toward the major

• MUS 395 Practicum in Music (Senior Recital) - 1 credit 
• Choose 11 credits from the courses below (at least six must be MUS 456)
  
  • MUS 220 Introduction to Conducting - 3 credits
  • MUS 240 Introduction to Diction for Singers - 1 credit
  • MUS 320 Advanced Conducting - 3 credits
  • MUS 340 Advanced Diction for Singers - 1 credit
  • MUS 356 Individual Music Instruction (Private Lessons) - 1.5 or 3 credits
  • MUS 365 Special Topics in Music - 3 credits
  • MUS 456 Advanced Individual Music Instruction (Advanced Private Lessons) - 1.5 or 3 credits *Students must pass an advancement jury in order to register for lessons at the MUS 456 level.
  • MUS 480 Independent Study in Music (when topically appropriate) - 1-6 credits
