Eastern hosted a “Not So Scary Halloween Event” on Nov. 2 for area children between the grade levels of kindergarten and fourth grade and their families. Held in Niejadlik hall, the event included games and activities, a reading room and three floors designated for trick or treating. The event has been hosted at Eastern for more than 20 years and was free of charge.
Hall Director Shawn Gilhuly and 34 student volunteers staffed the event. Activities included face painting, bean bag toss, crafts and “pin the broom on the witch.” There was also a snack and popcorn station, along with a movie for the children. The 135 attendees included both children and parents, and was “a great way to get kids excited for Halloween,” said Gilhuly.
