Leaving Eastern
Transfer to another US institution
- International Students can choose to transfer to another school(college or University) to further their degree program but the student must visit the International Student Office to notify us.
- International students must know that the new school cannot issue the I-20 until you have completed the necessary procedures then your Student and Exchange Visitor Information system (SEVIS) records will be transferred to the new school.
- At the time of requesting for transfer of your SEVIS records, make sure that your account is up to date
- The new program of study must begin within five months of the completion of studies dated on your I-20. However, the student must leave the country and re-enter to begin the new program if the program happens to begin later than five months.
- In addition, the student must transfer before the end of the 60-days period after the completion of studies dated on your I-20.
After Graduation
Change to another non-immigrant or immigrant status
- International students who have completed their program of study must update their immigration status.
- Only eligible students must change to another non-immigrant or immigrant classification.
- Please note that applications to change status must be completed and submitted before the need of the 60-day grace period after the date of the completion of studies on you I-20 form.
Departure from U.S.
- All international students who have completed their program of study must complete the departure Form and submit it to the International Student Office.
- Students who have completed their program of study must leave the country before the end of the 60-day grace period on the I-20 form, with the exception of those who applied for OPT, transferred to another school or applied to change their immigration status.
- International Students that have left the country after the completion of their program of study must not re-enter the United States using their Eastern I-20 and F-1 student documents
Moving Options
Change to another non-immigrant or immigrant status
- Students can choose to move their stuff from the dorm or house and store in a local storage facility or shipped to their various countries.
- Depending on what the student is shipping and to what country, the shipping rate might vary. Make sure to choose the safest form so your property is not lost.
Donating
- We highly encourage International Students to donate and give to someone in need instead of throwing away their stuff.
- If the students have non-perishable items (canned foods, toiletries, lotion, shampoo, soap) that are unopened: it can be donated to their local soup kitchen or to the Covenant Soup Kitchen(220 Valley St, Willimantic, CT 06226 or call (860) 423-1643) and also book donations to the Holy Family Home and Shelter, Inc. (88 Jackson Street, P.O. Box 884, Willimantic, CT 06226 or call (860-423-7719).
