Lauren Zenzie ’15
Magna Cum Laude - Communication Major, Business Administration Minor
Lauren took every opportunity during her time at Eastern to engage in active learning opportunities, including working at the Student Center Information Desk, joining the Competitive Dance Team, and studying abroad at Hawaii Pacific University her junior year, where she developed a passion for broadcasting. When she returned to campus, she immediately joined the TV-22 news team as a news anchor. “Eastern’s small class sizes and opportunities for applied learning put me on the path to success,” said Lauren. “My communication classes taught me what I needed to know to pursue an on-air job after graduation, as well as different production jobs, including operating a camera, producing stories for the newscast, working the audio board and other jobs. My classes allowed me to hone my broadcasting skills, putting me in perfect position to advance my career after graduation.”
After graduating, Lauren was hired as a reporter at KNBC-TV in Rapid City, SD. In early 2016, she landed a job closer to home as host of the talk show “Mass Appeal” at NBC-22 in Springfield, MA. The show airs weekdays from 11 a.m. to noon, and covers lifestyle issues such as cooking, do-it-yourself projects, charity fundraisers, beauty, fitness, health and more. In addition to serving as anchor, Lauren books the segments for the show each day, writes the scripts, and shoots and edits video for her stories. “I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish all that I have without Eastern. The hours of practice and hands-on learning prepared me to be successful, and I thank the University for that.”
