eastern-ct-sustainability.pngEastern’s dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship has been decades in the making. It features three fundamental, interrelated elements, including an academic arm (the Center for Sustainability Studies), a public outreach operation (the Institute for Sustainability) and a commitment to sustainability on campus (the Green Campus Committee and its programs). Through this multi-pronged approach, Eastern has established itself as a national Green Campus and a leader in sustainability in Connecticut.

Center for Sustainability Studies

The center and an endowed chair were created in 2004 to provide students with academic programming in sustainable energy studies and related courses within the liberal arts curriculum.

Institute for Sustainability

Since 2001, the IS has partnered with public and private entities across the state to implement practical solutions to increase sustainability. The center also collaborates with campus offices to incorporate sustainability into Eastern’s culture.

A Green Campus

A commitment to carbon neutrality, LEED-certified buildings, an active recycling program, energy-efficient lighting and other systems, and the state’s largest geothermal residence hall are a few examples of Eastern’s commitment to being a green campus.

by the Princeton Review Every year since 2010, the Princeton Review has named Eastern as one of the Top 50 Green Colleges out of over 300 schools!

The Dean’s Cup Energy Conservation Challenge is the annual competition challenge to see which residence hall can conserve the most energy.
