The new Fine Arts Institutional Center (FAIC) at Eastern Connecticut State University introduces “The Road to Cascajal: Digital Technologies in the Documentation of Olmec Art.” Michael Carrasco will speak with Eastern students about his Mesoamerican Corpus of Formative Period Art and Writing project on Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. in the Concert Hall (FAIC 103). Carrasco, associate professor and director of museum and cultural heritage studies at Florida State University, will describe the earliest example of writing in the new world.
Carrasco will enlighten students on his current project, which uses modern imaging technologies to examine historical artifacts and provide unprecedented ways to engaging ancient sculpture.
Carrasco investigates Maya architecture and Mesoamerican formative period art and writings while working on many individual and collaborate research projects and publications. Two of his works will be published this coming spring.
