Eastern Connecticut State University’s Center for Internships and Career Development (CICD) hosted its annual Career Exploration Expo on Nov. 3. The event, which took place is the Betty Tipton Room, presented students with a “speed dating” format, allowing attendees to speak to multiple employers in a welcoming and informational setting.
The career fair included employers such as Cigna, Pfizer, Bear & Bull Productions, NEvideo and The Hartford Financial Services Group. Industries represented included insurance, finance, media production, biomedical, law enforcement and others. Along with private businesses, representatives from non-profit organizations and state agencies also made an appearance.
Along with the “speed dating” rounds, where students were given the opportunity to network with personnel from a variety of fields and professions, participants were also provided with key tips for their next steps in career advancement. For the first step after the event, the CICD encouraged attendees to connect with someone they met through email or LinkedIn. Students were also urged to make an appointment with the CICD to discuss their career aspirations and develop a plan, consider adding a major or minor to broaden their education, and add to their account on the Eastern Career Network (ECN).
Through the ECN, students can upload their resume, find out about upcoming events, and explore potential internship opportunities. This, paired with the resource Candid Career, in which students can access online videos and career advice, allows students to develop their goals and aspirations while also getting an education.
