Eastern Connecticut State University's Health Sciences Department has received a $74,303 grant from the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA) to construct a new physical therapeutic laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment.
Led by professors Paul Canavan and Anita Lee, the new laboratory will support the Health Sciences major and will provide students with the hands-on learning and undergraduate research experience needed to prepare them for graduate program admissions in physical and occupational therapy.
CHEFA is a quasi-governmental agency that utilizes no state funding. It was created to help Connecticut-based non-profit organizations improve health and education. The CHEFA grant will allow Eastern students to use the new lab and equipment to assess balance, walking and strength as part of the allied health concentration.
"Eastern Connecticut State University appreciates the generosity of this award from CHEFA and is delighted that this project was selected by the competitive Client Grant," said Professor Lee.
