Officer Nietupski promoted to sergeant

Eastern Connecticut State University’s Department of Public Safety celebrated the promotion of Officer Christine Nietupski on Friday, March 24, who was sworn in as sergeant during a ceremony in the library.

Prior to joining Eastern’s police department in October 2019, Nietupski served as an officer with the police departments of the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the town of Avon, CT. She also holds several degrees and certifications, earning a bachelor's degree from Western New England University in Business Administration in 2001, a master's degree in criminal justice from American International College in 2004 and a certificate of advanced paralegal studies from Bay Path University in 2014.

“Christine Nietupski brings 16 years of experience into her new role as sergeant,” said Eastern Police Chief Stephen Tavares. “She recognizes that sergeant is a crucial role within the operation of our department and has prepared herself well for this responsibility. We are pleased to have Sergeant Nietupski join the supervisory ranks of (our) police department and look forward to watching her grow in the role.”

Nietupski has additionally been recognized for her professionalism and empathy in the field, as well as her involvement with Eastern’s annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, for which all proceeds benefit the Connecticut Special Olympics.
