More than 90 singers from across the state came to Eastern Connecticut State University on March 5 for the annual student auditions of the Connecticut Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (CT-NATS). Awards were given to the top three singers in each of eight categories. Six singers from Eastern participated in the auditions.
Theatre major Alexis Kurtz ’16 placed first in the College Musical Theater Division, and will represent Eastern at the Winner’s Recital in April.
“While the CT-NATS auditions rotate locations every year, this was the first time Eastern hosted the event, thanks in large part to the resources available in our new Fine Arts Instructional Center,” said Emily Riggs, music professor at Eastern and member of the board of directors of the CT-NATS.
Other Eastern students participating included Halie Poirier ’18, Hannah Bythrow ’18, Abigail Perreira ’17, Moriah Perrett ’16 and Judy Reid ’16. They sang in the Lower College and Upper College (Classical) division competitions, as well as the College Musical Theater division.
