Accounting Major
Chris is a tax accountant at KPMG. “I work in the State and Local Tax practice at KPMG, where we provide clients with compliance and consulting services regarding tax matters under the state and local area of jurisdiction. The quality of Eastern’s Accounting program was critical in preparing me for success. I think the greatest benefit that the Accounting program provides students is the broad spectrum of topics the program covers in the field of accounting.
This is important in preparing students to pass the exam required to be licensed as a Certified Public Accountant. I was able to pass all four parts of the CPA exam on my first attempt within one year of graduation. I owe a great deal of this success to the quality of Eastern’s Accounting program.
“The technical knowledge I obtained is not the only contributing factor to my success as a CPA. Critical thinking, problem solving, collaborating with others and accountability are a few of the soft skills necessary to be successful in the field of accounting. Eastern does an excellent job in providing students with the opportunity to hone these skills. This was a large contributing factor in me obtaining a job immediately upon graduating from Eastern.
“In my senior year, I was given the opportunity to complete an internship through the Accounting program’s participations in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Through this internship, I was able to connect with a network of other CPAs, which ultimately led to the opportunity for employment at KPMG.”
