Samantha Warshauer performs at Carnegie Hall

Junior music major Samantha Warshauer performed at Carnegie Hall on Oct. 9 in a benefit concert for the non-profit organization Music for Change, which promotes diversity and inclusivity in music and theatre. Warshauer completed a virtual audition during the COVID-19 pandemic and was one of only 30 performers selected from a pool of more than 3,000 applicants. She aspires to study vocal performance and opera in a graduate school following Eastern. “I’m really excited to have the chance to apply everything I’ve been learning into such a rare opportunity.”

Eastern Theatre to present ‘The Place That Made You’

The Theatre program will premiere its first production of the 2021-22 school year. “The Place That Made You,” written and directed by Eastern professor Darcy Parker Bruce, will be on stage from Oct. 19-24. Following a re-imagined version of the Old Testament story of Jonah and The Whale, “The Place That Made You” takes place in a coastal town in Connecticut. The show follows Jonah, who attempts to reunite with his best friend after a tragedy; Ben, who returns to her childhood home; and a giant white whale who haunts the town. Read More

‘Big Read’ program kicks off with ‘The Artist as Witness’

Eastern will kick off its National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Big Read program with the exhibition “The Artist as Witness” from Oct. 18 – Feb. 01, 2022, in the Art Gallery. The exhibition features works by master artists, participants in the Prison Arts Program and local college students, and is meant as a visual companion to the University’s Big Read program surrounding the graphic novel “The Best We Could Do” by Thi Bui. ECSU Foundation hosts annual golf tournament

The ECSU Foundation held its annual golf tournament on Oct. 5 at the Wethersfield Country Club. The tournament raised $57,000 for the foundation’s scholarship funds. Since its inaugural event in 2006, the tournament has raised approximately $1.2 million. Sponsors included KeyBank, Barnes and Noble, Walmart, the Windham Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co., Chartwells and the aerospace company Kell-Strom Tool Co.

Campus Ministry holds Red Cross blood drive

The Campus Ministry held a two-day Red Cross blood drive on Sept. 28 and 29 in the Student Center. Regular and first-time donors from the Eastern community donated 78 pints of blood, which will help the save the lives or more than 200 people. The Campus Ministry will host two more blood drives this year on Nov. 29 and 30.
