Eastern dancers perform at annual 5x5 Dance Festival
A group of Eastern students performed at the 20th Annual 5x5 Dance Festival on Nov. 6 at the University of St. Joseph’s Autorino Center for the Arts and Humanities. The performance featured dancers from the student organization Modern Movement as well as students enrolled in the Dance and World Performance concentration.
Prospanica CT awards Walter Diaz for education leadership
Walter Diaz, vice president of student affairs, has been awarded the Education Leadership Award by the Prospanica Connecticut Chapter Board of Directors. Diaz will be recognized at the virtual annual Destino Award Gala on Dec. 9. The Education Leadership Award is given to those who work in the higher education community and advocate for diverse communities and students. Diaz has worked in the education system since 1987 and has been a part of the Eastern community since 1999. Read More
Mama gives international presentation on folktales
English Professor Raouf Mama gave a virtual international presentation titled “Integration of Folktales in the English Language Teaching (ELT) Classroom” on Sept. 17 and 27. This webinar was a part of the Professional Development for Teachers Webinar Series hosted by educators in Pakistan. Selected by the U.S. Department of State for this international assignment, Mama’s primary focus was implementing folktales in Pakistani classrooms to teach English. Read More
DeVivo and Johnson speak on educational equity
Windham Mayor Tom DeVivo and State Rep. Susan Johnson visited Eastern on Oct. 27 to discuss public education and their aspirations for a new magnet school in Windham. The event was a part of Eastern’s ongoing Big Read program, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). Read More
Eastern embraces Halloween spirit
Eastern embraced the Halloween spirit in a number of ways this fall. Across residence halls, student organizations and arts events, students, staff and faculty participated in costume contests, pumpkin painting and door decorating.
