Noted violinist Adrien Sylveen performed violin sonatas from the works of 19th century composer Johannes Brahms on April 6 at Eastern Connecticut State University. Pianist Blake Hansen accompanied Sylveen for the University Hour event. The duet performed Sonata No. 1 in G major and Sonata No. 3 in D minor.
Sylveen performs both in the United States and in Europe. He is a frequent guest conductor with several popular Polish orchestras. As an active violinist and conductor, he has performed concerts and recitals in Poland, Switzerland, Germany, the former Soviet Union and the United States. Sylveen graduated from the Paderewski Music Academy in Poznan, Poland, and holds master’s and post-master’s degrees from the Yale University School of Music. One of the most prestigious awards he has received is the “Primus Inter Pares” Award given by the President of the Republic of Poland.
Hansen graduated from the Hartt School at University of Hartford in 2013 with a Master of Music in piano performance. He performs frequently as an accompanist and soloist in the greater Hartford area. Hansen has pursued studies in violin as well. He was the winner of multiple piano competitions, including the University of Redlands Merit Awards and The Inland Empire Piano Festival, both in California. Hansen has performed at noted venues such as Steinway Hall in New York City and the Illsley Ball Nordstram Hall in Seattle, WA.
“The violin sonatas are great pieces of music regardless of what instrument you play,” said Music Professor Stacy Dziuk, “and it is a rare treat to hear Sylveen and Hansen together on a performance.”
